TRACK LISTING & INFORMATION
1. Two Angels I was in hospital in 2009 for various tests. The night before test no.13 I became extremely anxious and agitated in anticipation of the test procedure and its results. A few hours prior to being transferred by ambulance to another hospital for the test, as I lay in my hospital bed, I had the very strong feeling of two people present, each holding one of my hands. I was immediately certain whose hands they were - and I still remember the sensation vividly today. I suddenly became calm and confident about the imminent test.
2. Another Space About 8 years ago John Creedon (who currently presents a great music show on RTE Radio 1 weekdays 8.30- 10 p.m.) used to present a mid-day music show on the same station. One day he was conducting a live interview with Christy Moore. John probably had a very limited time with Christy and wanted to get the most out of the interview. At one stage John asked a very long-winded multi-sided question. Christy responded calmly and boldly with: "I’m sorry John, I didn’t hear the question, my head was in another space." That expression stuck with me because I think that for me and many others, our heads are often in that "other space" – perhaps because of all the everyday distractions.
3. Paddys Hill Paddy’s Hill is a public parkland between Portmarnock and Malahide in north County Dublin. It overlooks the sea with the fishing port of Howth and the islands of Ireland’s Eye and Lambay, as a backdrop. My wife, Pauline, died on 10 January 2009. She loved walking on Paddy’s Hill and was there almost daily. Since Pauline’s death, when I walk on Paddy’s Hill I sense her presence. Pauline was one of the Angels referred to in Track 1 above.
4. My Song Nothing very profound here. It was written in four minutes (obviously) while I was labouring to finish one of the other songs.
5. Rachel Corrie In June 2010, a ship named Rachel Corrie set out to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. It was commandeered by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF). The song reflects my concern for the ship and its crew as they progressed towards Gaza, and the actions of the IDF.
6. Lament for a Lovely Lady My sister-in-law Breda died in April 2007 after a short illness. Breda lived alone in Brussels. She was very much a part of her lives and never failed to be with us for Christmas, family events etc. We had arranged to bring her home to Ireland but she died three days before the scheduled flight. Breda was the other Angel referred to In Track 1 above.
7. Silent Protest This song reflects my angry reaction to all that continues to emerge in relation to the horrific abuse of children by clerics - aided by the inactions of Church hierarchy, the State and the rest of us. 8. Lady on a Train About 2 years ago, I met a lady on a train in Germany. She was very beautiful and we exchanged e-mail addresses. She was from Quebec and her language was French. Subsequently she visited Ireland and I visited Quebec. But alas!!!!!
9. M50 This instrumental came to me while I was stuck in traffic on the M50. I don’t write music so I had to keep humming it while I drove the rest of the way home so that I could record it to remember it and develop it.
10. Seanie Boy This songs reflects both my anger (via the lyrics) and my boredom at the absence of any acknowledgement of blame (via the melody) relating to the incessant reports of worsening economic mayhem we find ourselves in. The name Seanie Boy does not relate to anyone in particular but you might know someone who coincidentally fits the description.
11. I’m Feeling Blue This was inspired by something I witnessed as I travelled on a train. A man and woman were clearly distraught at having to part at the station.
12. Long Time between Tides I got the idea for this song from a meeting with someone who I hadn’t met for some time. I was uplifted by the meeting. The real event was absolutely not romantic but I injected this ingredient for the purpose of the song. It’s called lyric writer's licence!
13. Talk To Joe This was intended to be part of Joe Duffy’s campaign to be elected President of Ireland but true to form he took example from his former mentor Gaybo and chose not to run. A lamentable loss for Ireland!
